Nothing Says Style Like An Original

Sumptuous satin bespoke 60's gown. Stunning cut. When worn this dress hangs like a column dress from the front but fans out at the back. Gorgeous silver bugle bead detail. It is an absolute stunner.

Measurements: Bust up to 40, Waist up to 32, Hips up to 39" - small 14

Flaws: Near Mint: one tiny smudge near hem, one snag which looks like a very, very faint line half way down the skirt, otherwise perfect.

Sliver and Lace

Another fantastic dress from the swinging 50's. Made of a silver lame and overlaid with beautiful lavender lace. The underskirt is backed  with  horse hair to give the full circle skirt added stiffness without the need of a crinoline petticoat. It is shown here without however for those of you who prefer the fuller look, a crinoline can be provided with this dress.

Measurements: Bust up to 39, Waist up to 30, Hips: Free. Size 14.

Flaws: Near Mint: There are a couple of small stains on the front of the bodice about half the size of a penny. These are completely hidden by the lace overlay, only a scrupulous person looking for flaws would see them.

Label: None.

Marc Bohan succeeded Yves Saint Laurent as head of the House of Dior. Bohan brought the House of Dior into the Sixties during the early years of the Mod movement. Under his leadership the House of Dior created  simpler construction to the regular line of Dior fashions. He explored the ethnic styles of fashions that were becoming increasingly popular, with exotic prints and more fluid shapes. This Numbered Couture dress is a stunning example of his achievements at Dior. Exemplary  construction, with a hidden zip that does up at the shoulder and fully lined throughout. The dramatic design is made up of lurex thread.

Measurements: Bust up to 39, Empire waist up to 32, Hips up to 40". Size 14

Flaws: None, mint condition

20's Silk Chemise

This is an exquisite shift dress. The colour is a dusty pink, much less red than the photographs. Entirely hand sown, it is made from silk velvet, that has had the intricate pattern cut into it by hand. The material is to die for! It feels like a summer breeze to wear but is surprisingly heavy when held in one hand. It is truly remarkable that that such delicate fabric has survived this long. It would have been worn with an under slip originally, however although semi see- through, contemporary underwear would be far more sexy. This is the kind of craftsmanship that simply does not exist today.

Measurements: Bust 36, Waist 36, Hips 40" - small 16

Flaws: Considering its age, this garment is in great shape. There are several holes that have been invisibly repaired - see additional photographs.

Particularly nice shaping around the neck & shoulders, that gives it  an Egyptian feel.

A Monroe style classic , 50's, wiggle dress, designed for a woman with proper curves.  Unfortunately our mannequin simply is not shapely enough to show this dress off, which is a shame because it is a cracker! Less shinny than it appears in the images, this dress is made of a taffeta, with a lace overlay and chiffon side insert (see additional images).

Flaws: None: mint condition

Measurements: Bust up to 42, Waist up to 32, Hips up to 40" - small 16

Label: None: probably hand made
